As autumn deepens and the veil thins, the October Full Moon invites us to pause, reflect, and reconnect—with the land, our lineage, and the cycles that hold us.
Morning Magic: A Visit from the Wild
Before sunrise, I walked beneath the stars—Venus rising in the east, the Full Moon in Aries setting to the west. Through the moonlight, I saw three coyotes cross my path. An owl soared silently overhead, and bats fluttered through the soft dawn air. Nature feels especially alive this time of year—mystical, whispering, full of meaning. The turning of the season reminds us that life is both fleeting and eternal, ever transforming.
Planting Seeds Under the Full Moon
When I returned home, I began planting seeds in the garden beds and potting flowers—small gestures of hope and resilience. Each seed felt like a miracle in my hand. While I wait for the new sprouts to emerge, I’ve filled the garden with marigolds, their golden petals shining with purpose.
In Mexican tradition, marigolds are flowers of the dead, believed to guide the spirits of loved ones home during Día de los Muertos. Their vibrant color and scent serve as a bridge between worlds—a way of honoring those who came before.
As I finished planting and potting, I took a moment to reflect and gave thanks. Fall reminds us that everything changes—the beauty of impermanence, and the quiet truth that nothing is ever truly lost. Our ancestors live within us, in our bones, our blood, our breath. They exist in the soil that nourishes the plants, in the fire that warms us, in the moonlight that illuminates our paths. My mother’s memory was close; the little terracotta birds perched nearby were her gift the year before she passed.
Remembering Our Roots
To remember our ancestors is to remember ourselves. It’s not always grand or ceremonial. Sometimes it’s a quiet moment in the garden, a tear while planting a seed, or a familiar scent that stirs a memory. Connection can be as simple as placing your hands on the earth, cooking a recipe passed down through generations, or feeling the soft breeze of their presence (that’s my favorite way of knowing they are near!)
This morning, I felt that breeze—a gentle headwind carrying both blessings and release. I imagined their love flowing toward me, magnetizing what nourishes and carrying away what no longer serves.
