The CBD market is saturated but when it comes to specific CBD formulations and areas of focus, what does it all really mean?
Let’s start with CBD, what it is and why it is used in plant-based formulations. CBD is a lipid-soluble compound produced from the hemp plant. It is a viscous dark oil, the result of an extracting process that removes all fibers, proteins, and other plant components.
The initial crude oil extract is then further refined and results in an amber paste containing a CBD concentrate called full-spectrum CBD. Broad-spectrum CBD extract is the result of a process that removes all traces of THC.
Because the cannabinoids are lipid-soluble, CBD extracts work well in formulations that are oil-based tinctures or soft gelatin capsules. CBD can be found in products ranging from tinctures, cosmetics, lotions, shampoos, soaps, and some foods. Consumer demand has also generated a growing list of products for pets and animals.
One Size Does Not Fit All
Because CBD is a booming industry, there is a growing number of companies offering formulations across a full range of applications and products. However, most CBD companies do not have custom formulations.
Instead, they have been commonly known to white label their products. White label products are sold by retailers with their own branding and logo but the products themselves are manufactured by a third party leaving very little difference between products. It’s a one size fits all approach that is confusing to the consumer.
Custom formulations use a proprietary blend of ingredients that make the products unique to a specific brand. At Kaya Hemp Co., our CBD products are custom formulations. We also believe it’s important to look at the category as plant-based wellness, not just CBD. Before we talk about ingredients, let’s talk about the purpose. The demand for CBD is primarily based on four categories of use.

The combinations of plant-based formulas applied to different uses is almost limitless. Formulations can be found in topical products to address inflammation and pain due to an injury or arthritis, bursitis, or tendinitis.
